Roofing Company in Katy, TX
Katy has added houses faster than almost anywhere we work. Four in ten homes in the city went up in 2010 or later, so a lot of Katy roofs are still young. The roofs that come to us are the first wave of builder roofs from the 2000s, the hail-hit ones, and older homes near the original town that are on their second or third covering.
- Free on-site roof measurement
- Written estimate before tear-off
- Shingle, metal and low-slope roofs
- Homes and businesses
How new is Katy's housing, and what does that mean for roofs?
Very new. The Census Bureau's 2020-2024 American Community Survey counts 8,495 homes inside Katy's city limits, with a median year built of 2003:
- 40.4%built 2010 or later
- 13.6%built 2000-2009
- 20.4%built before 1980
- 80.7%owner-occupied
Two very different roof jobs come out of those numbers. Homes built in the 2000s are reaching the age when their original builder-grade shingles start to curl and shed granules on the sunny slopes. Homes from before 1980, mostly closer to the old town, have usually been re-roofed at least once, and their replacement is a full strip of every layer down to the deck.
The city also sits where three counties meet. Katy is centered at the corner of Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties, so the county on your tax bill depends on the street, but the roof work is the same.
What wears out first on a 2000s Katy builder roof?
The parts that were cheapest to install. On a production-built home the shingles are often the lightest architectural grade the builder could buy, the attic relies on a handful of box vents, and the starter strip at the eaves is sometimes cut from regular shingles rather than a proper starter course.
A replacement is the chance to fix all of that at once. When the decking is bare, adding continuous ridge venting, a real starter course at every edge and a heavier shingle costs far less than it ever will again.
We look at the attic first, count the intake and exhaust openings, and write the ventilation plan on the estimate next to the shingle line, so you can see why each piece is there.
What roofing work do Katy homeowners ask for?
Most requests in and around Katy fall into a few groups.
First full replacement on a builder roof from the early 2000s
Replacement after a hailstorm, with photos for the adjuster
Upgrades to impact-rated shingles at re-roof time
Metal roofs on barns, shops and homes on acreage
Ridge vents and soffit intake added to under-vented attics
HOA paperwork with the exact shingle line and color
What happens when hail hits a Katy neighborhood?
Usually a rush of door-knockers. After a hail cell crosses the west side, out-of-town crews show up within days, and some offer to cover the deductible, which Texas law forbids. The better first step is to have the roof measured and photographed by a local roofer, then let your adjuster see the same damage.
- Photos first. We photograph each slope, the ridge and the soft metals that show hail marks.
- Your policy decides. The insurer decides what is covered; we write the roofing scope.
- Upgrade if it fits. A claim replacement is a natural time to move to impact-rated shingles.
Our storm and hail damage page walks through the claim steps in more detail.

Katy roofing questions
My Katy house was built around 2005. Is it time for a new roof?
Not automatically. A roof from the mid-2000s can still have years left if the shingles lie flat, hold their granules and the decking is firm. What usually ages first on these homes is the ridge vent, the pipe collars and the shingles on the south and west slopes. We check each slope on the free visit and tell you in writing whether replacement is due.
Will my Katy HOA have to approve a new roof?
Many Katy subdivisions have deed restrictions that cover roof color and material, and some keep an approved shingle list. A like-for-like replacement is often simple, while a color change or a switch to metal usually needs an application. We give you the exact shingle line and color name to put on the form before any work is scheduled.
Does a Katy re-roof need a windstorm certificate?
No. TWIA's coverage area is the 14 first-tier coastal counties plus five Harris County cities east of State Highway 146, and Katy is in none of them. A TDI windstorm inspection and WPI-8 certificate are not part of a Katy roof replacement. We still nail every roof to the shingle maker's high-wind pattern.
Is a metal roof a good fit for a Katy property with acreage?
It often is for barns, shops and homes on larger lots outside the subdivisions, where there is no HOA material rule. Standing seam panels hide their fasteners and shed water well on long runs, and exposed-fastener panels suit outbuildings. We price metal and shingle side by side when you ask, so you can compare them on the same roof.
How do you handle a roof replacement in a tight Katy subdivision?
Lots in newer Katy neighborhoods are narrow, so we plan where the dumpster and the shingle delivery go before the job, protect the neighbor's side of the fence line, and keep the driveway clear by evening. Tear-off and dry-in happen one section at a time, and the yard and street are swept with a magnet when we finish.
Get the new roof planned before the old one comes off
We measure every slope, check the decking and the attic ventilation, and write the estimate before a single shingle is torn off.
Ready to find out what a new roof will take?
The roof measurement is free. We check the decking, count the layers, measure every slope and write the material, underlayment and flashing line by line.
